Loisirs-Plezier Brussels 1920-1940

For this year dedicated to Art Deco, La Maison Autrique embraces lightness by offering a refreshing dive into the leisure activities of this distinctive period, retrospectively known as "the interwar years." The people of Brussels were unaware they were living through an interlude; on the contrary, they threw themselves wholeheartedly into life, thirsty for entertainment and well-being.
This was the era of discovering automobile speed and the first aerial excursions, the joys of tourism for all, but also the arrival of talking cinema, the miracle of radio invading the home, jazz clubs, cabarets, and music halls that were always bustling, and sport becoming a popular way of life...
Posters, magazines, photographs, enamel signs, and objects will serve as keys to unlocking the atmosphere of Brussels life at the time, with a spotlight on graphic designers and illustrators, as well as Brussels and Belgian firms and products that will amaze you with their inventiveness and modernity. Featured are Leo Marfurt, Lucien De Roeck, Francis Delamare, Jeanne Hovine, Peter De Greef, as well as René Magritte, Hubert Dupond, Mark Severin, and many more.
Exhibition Curator: Cristina Marchi
