Festival ARTONOV ~ Los pasos perdidos

Los pasos perdidos ~ The breath of the Old and the New World

Early music – Archeomusicology
Pierre Hamon, recorders, pre-columbian flutes, composer

An invitation to meditation and dreaming: Pierre Hamon proposes a voyage through the breath in a sonorous universe of ancient flutes from ancient human civilizations. The double medieval flutes are direct descendants of the flutes and aulos of Greek and Roman antiquity as well as with double and triple flutes of the ancient civilizations of Mexico.

The three-holed flute and drum of the medieval minstrels have survived in several traditions of France and Spain, as well as among several American Indian peoples from Mexico to Peru. Made of bone, ceramic, reed or bamboo, in wood, excavated (love flutes of the Indians of the plains of North America), or already in existence (western recorders) to seduce the living or to communicate with the spirits.

This program is therefore an interrogation on the original power of music generated by the “primal” breath, which can lead to trance, meditation and jubilation; a path of the universal quest for the present moment and mysteries of life. “Be above all a beast of breath,” Frans Brüggen used to say in his provocative way during master classes he gave at the end of the 70s or “a mystic of the breath”, as suggested to us by several traditions.
