The Jules Verne houseRue Charles Dubois 2 - 8000 Amiens - France Jules Verne lived for eighteen years in this impressive but modest tower house. His ghost isn't intrusive, but his presence can be felt. He observes the visitors from the highest parts of the tower. The Horta houseRue Américaine 25 - 1050 Brussels - Belgium Architecture and furniture designed by V. Horta. It was built between 1989 and 1901 by Victor Horta (Art Nouveau). Private dwellings of Victor Horta. Freed from the constraints put upon him by his partners, Horta could let his imagination run free. A good example are the main stairs that serve as the central axis of the construction, or the wealth of the decorations, plans, photo's and models. The Cauchie houseRue des Francs 5 - 1040 Etterbeek (Brussels) - Belgium The architect Cauchie built his own house in 1905. His letter-head stated: “General enterprise for fully furnished interiors, decorations and ornaments.” His house has actually been ornamented with a remarkable Art Nouveau front. The balanced façade is linear and geometric, with very disctinct motifs, like an painting. The whole is coloured by large, stylised figures in sgraffito. Sander Pierron houseRue de l'Aqueduc 157 - 1050 Ixelles (Brussels) - Belgium This house dates from 1896 and was built on plans by Victor Horta Hannon HouseAvenue de la Jonction, 1 - 1060 Bruxelles - Belgium This magnificent manor house built by Jules Brunfaut in 1903-1904, today houses the Contretype centre which is dedicated to photograph exhibitions. The extraordinary harmony of marble, mosaics, stained glasses and wood panelling of exceptional quality can still be admired today. |
